Introduce myself

Post by Buttercup on Mon Oct 03, 2016 9:25 pm

Hi, I won't make this long. One of my parents loved me and was willing but too disabled to parent, the other parent was unable and unwilling.
I was raised mostly as an only child. I think the thing I missed most growing up was anyone asking me how my day was, what my friends said, what happened, why I thought that. Just no curiosity. That was incredibly hard to work out, decades it took.

Here is a list of some of the tools in my toolbox, not in order of date or importance:

Bible study esp the Psalms
orthomolecular medicine, especially niacin
Tai Chi
transactional analysis
dog ownership for first time
Brother Lawrence

I still have a long way to go but I don't feel so alone now.

Hi buttercup. Welcome to the forum Smile

I'm sure we can relate to what you have said. I too, looking back, have now realised that I was never asked these questions. It's like we missed the connection, the normal everyday connection at emotional levels with parents.

What type(s) of therapy have you found that work for you?? I've heard of EMDR but don't know a lot about it. Did you find it helped?
